How to Leave a Job Gracefully

Every person gets to a point in their lives when it is time to move on from a job into a different one. This transition can be intimidating, scary, awkward, stressful or overall you can make it down-right GRACEFUL! Leaving a job can be graceful? You bet! But in achieving this end result it is all up to you!

We have all heard the saying, "don't burn bridges". Well, there is truth in this statement and it can be applied to many areas in life, but especially to our professional careers. Whether we work in an office, a hospital, a bank, a grocery store, retail, or dinning services, it doesn't matter the job, professionalism is always a necessity. Whether you are moving to a different job for personal or professional reasons, there are always a few protocols which should be followed:

  • Always put in a two week notice. It doesn't matter if the company probably won't keep you on for the whole time, but it is a courteous to give them a heads up to either train a new employee or begin the hiring process.
  • While you finish out your two weeks, don't slack on the job. Your work ethic should remain in tact and it will follow you wherever you go.
  • Don't walk out in a huff. Your finances may require you to remain at a job until you have a second one secured. Don't make a rash decision!
  • When putting in your two week notice, it is not necessary for you to go into every aspect of the job you dislike or could use improvement. Keep your message short and sweet with little room for misinterpretation.
"It has been such a pleasure working for you, but I have been offered an                 opportunity I cannot pass."

"This job has been such a great experience and I would like to thank you                 for the opportunity to work for you, but I would like to move in a                           different direction with my career."

  • Keep your negative comments to yourself. Never speak ill about your boss or co-workers in public, to other co-workers and never, ever on any social media website. You never know who will hear or read those comments and they cannot be taken back. They will follow you forever!
  • If you have been fired or laid off, always keep an air of sophistication. Refrain from speaking ill of your previous employer and never gossip about work "problems". The more private you are about the circumstances, the more respect you will gain from others around you who may have connections that will help you find your next job.
  • Say good-bye to your co-workers. This doesn't mean a personal note to each person is required, but those you were close with deserve at least a "good-bye".
  • Most importantly, always remain professional! In our fast-paced world, your actions, whether good or bad, will catch up with you quickly.

Ground Floor Opportunities

Life is a whirlwind of opportunities. We enter into these "events" oftentimes not exactly knowing how we got to that point, or where it will lead us. As we look back to the original circumstances which led us to a specific place in our lives whether that is a relationship, marriage, college, a career or a friendship we can only be thankful for those unknown opportunities. A society that has become so fast-paced, even email appears slow to some of us, we no longer are able to value the virtue of patience and long, hard-working struggles. We are only take an idea, develop it, plan and expect it to become a success over-night, but in reality this is farther from the truth and I myself have unfortunately also become drawn into this backwards way of thinking at times. While brainstorming the other day about a few of our business ventures, I began to think about my floral design company and how only after 5 years have I been able to venture out to more clientele, my company's name is finally making a brand for itself and I feel I have hit a point of success. The funny thing about this company is that I never dreamed it would "take-off" overnight, I always had a realistic view that it was hard to break into any industry when you have no connections or backing, but I did it and have enjoyed the hard-work.

It is interesting however, that I am unable to take this philosophy or way of thinking into my other business ventures or aspects of life. I strive for personal success, but at times I don't feel it is moving fast enough. It is then that I must take a step back and re-examine myself and my motives. Am I becoming like the rest of society, or the rest of my generation, not wanting to wait? Truly, I am an impatient person which pretty much everyone can see from my choleric, A-Type personality, but that is no excuse for my constant drive to never let myself rest or to never accept the current position I am in. This past year has definitely been eye-opening for me as I have learned several of these lessons and work everyday to foster a bit more patience in my soul! As hard as that may be, I also don't expect this virtue to appear overnight or at an unrealistic rapid pace. This is just like everything else, it takes hard-work and time to develop, but believe me, it took me a long time to discover this within myself. The most important thing is that I have had to learn to be easier on myself. When I am too hard on myself and don't believe I am living up to my expectations or the expectations of those around me, I then become unsatisfied. This truly a fault of my own.

So, the lesson to be learned is to live life with a hard-working purpose, but to start with the ground floor opportunities. Because even though we never know their worth or the outcome of such circumstances, they are more beneficial in our lives than all the goals we set for ourselves but never accomplish. Or we become frustrated because they are not accomplished in the way we imagined. The funny thing is that when these goals are cultivated, in the way of divine providence, rather than to our own plan, it is actually more successful than we could have ever imagined. On the contrary, when we push something too hard and it is not the right timing, the sky falls, we feel like failures and we are forced to wait a bit longer for another ground floor opportunity.

Here are a few of the ground floor opportunities in our lives whether individual or as business partners:

The release of our first book, Provocative Manners: The Sauce of Life, in April 2013.

The start-up of DMH Custom Floral Designs in January 2008.

The development of Aircut.

The start-up of our company, Lady Lux Events, in 2012.

Post Birthday Milestone.....

Post Birthday Milestone!

So I just turned 30! and wait for it.............wait.............nope I did not explode!
When you turn 30 you are truly now an adult, (that is if you were not one before;) and totally time to act like one. You know those life goals and bucket lists, well it is time to start accomplishing them! Time is now and now is time, so get to it!

Three life lessons I have learned in my past 30 years.
With good family and friends you can accomplish anything and celebrate while you do it!

If you do not have a best friend that treats you awesome, go find one. My life would be a total drag without her.

Life does not have to be complicated, we make it that way
Dream big, take your biggest dream and multiply it by 10
Be grateful, for your family and friends, but mostly my faith!
Give love, a lot of people don't feel loved, they need to come to my house, I'll love the heck out of them!
Laugh lots and lot and lots, but especially at yourself!

Happiness During Rush Hour

I would have to say that this morning felt more rushed than usual. The kids wanted to play rather than get ready for the day and I preferred to just enjoy a warm cup of coffee while sitting at the table instead of sipping it quickly in the car while dropping my daughter off at school. Not only were we all a bit slower this morning, but it is gloomy and rainy outside. I'd have to say this is not a great combination to keep us going.

But as I was driving on the freeway to downtown and of course hitting rush hour, I remembered it was Veteran's Day. A day to remember all those currently and in the past who have served our country, who laid down their lives and the multiple sacrifices these men, women and their families suffered. I want to thank all our vets! Here is a new music video just released by Mary Beth Anthony, "The Soldier's Wife".

While driving through the rain I realized that I needed to slow down and take a deep breath. Just because it was raining did not give me any excuse for being crabby and lazy, instead I needed to motivate myself, just like any challenge in life. The difficult times, those times of suffering are the ones which pay off more in the end than the good times. Yes, we all need to laugh and laugh a lot, but what lessons would we learn in life if we never had any trials. The purpose of these trials is to not only learn from them, but to learn how to deal with them. This seems to be the hardest part, accepting the suffering for what it is but also dealing with it in an appropriate way. Instead of lashing out on others, or blaming them for our misfortunes, it is time that we put on a smile. The whole does not need to know that we are sad, depressed, angry, upset, ill and in need of sympathy. Instead of using our social media outlets and friends as a way to relay our feelings, maybe it's best to keep somethings within the privacy of our families and even ourselves.

So rush hour brought me to the conclusion that happiness doesn't stem from having it your own way, but dealing with what life throws at you with a smile and an accepting attitude, because ultimately we rarely can change the hardships presented before us. All in all, we can only take those moments to grow internally and externally and be a better person for it!

Also, wishing Katrina a Happy Birthday!

Family Priorities and Family Ties

It's time to take back society, it's time to take back family life! We have become such a "Go-Go" Society that relies mainly on selfish motives and oftentimes we forget to think about others, especially those in our family. Let's go back to those times of family dinners, family picnics, memorable birthday celebrations and unforgettable stories told by grandparents. Those were the simple times, but those are also the times most remembered when we get older. We won't remember why we skipped a family dinner or the reason we excused ourselves from visiting our grandparents over Thanksgiving.

A table is only beautiful if it can be filled with family and friends.

With the Holidays approaching let's put special time aside for our family and close friends, because in the end what else really matters? What is the point of celebrating Thanksgiving if we don't have anyone to share it with?

Enjoy the laughs!
